Successful entrepreneur Alex Carrigan's life is neatly organized and focused on building his company. But fate drops a series of bombshells when his eccentric grandfather appears on his doorstep to move in with him, the sudden death of his ex-wife leaves him with a precocious 12-year-old daughter he's convinced he didn't sire, and beautiful redhead Faith Christopher walks into his life. Faith has her own set of problems. She's been in emotional limbo since the death of her fiancé several years before, and the ties to his family are growing increasingly troublesome. She's wondering if she should give in to family pressure and marry the second son when Alex wanders into her bakery looking for his grandfather. The physical connection she feels with Alex is instantaneous and mutual, making her question whether a marriage based on companionship is wise or even possible. Meanwhile, Alex's grandfather has an agenda of his own. Fifty-six years earlier, he'd fallen in love, broken a piece of ancient Indian pottery, and brought a curse on himself and his heirs. He's convinced he must locate his lost love, return the pottery to its hiding place, and lift the curse, a plan Alex has heard many times before and doesn't want to get involved in. But Faith is intrigued by the elderly gentleman's tale and agrees to help him. Little does she know what life-changing forces have been set in motion by her decision. Can a woman who wants commitment find happiness with a man who doesn't believe in love? Will Alex be able to accept that not only is Faith everything he wants but also everything he needs? If Alex and Faith don't help his grandfather solve the more than half-century-long mystery, will the curse doom the two lovers and all the people they love? And what about the child he doesn't believe is his but who needs him so desperately?

This was a cute story about a group of people who all feel like they have no family. Faith, who was abandoned as a child, grew up in the foster care system. Alex, whose parents were never around growing up. Julian, Alex's grandfather, who had multiple marriages and a lost first love. And finally Jessie, Alex's daughter, who he doesn't believe is his real child, who's mother recently passed away. This is a story involving lots of magical powers bringing them together to reverse a family curse that was created by Julian taking a pot from it's ancient burial spot. I love Barbara Freethy's writing style, so I enjoyed the book. Heartwarming story about self discovery for all the characters.Product details

This was such a sweet and heartfelt story. The characters are all likeable and endearing (except for Gary's parents). The journey to not only find love but accept it was captivating. I got sucked into the story behind the curse. I had a hard time putting the book down and may have even lost some sleep. Loved it and I highly recommend it.
Wanted to keep on reading did not want book to end. Such great characters in this book. Couple of con artist in the grandfather and grandchild. Who could doubt they are related. A great story about family and what it takes to be one. Also great character to teach you what family is not. Only thing needed in book was for one character a pushy one at that to apologize. Other than that I loved the book from page one to the last page.
At first I wasn't sure I would like this book. But I more then liked it I loved it. The paranormal aspects were perfectly written and not overdone, the love stories were amazing. The back story was weaved throughout the whole book and it brought other parts of the story to the forefront. It's a very well written story with great characters. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Freethy develops characters that move beyond the typical male and female romance novel norms. She adds depth and suspense through a careful balance of harshness and tenderness. Some of the character development is predictable, but her use of the grandfather is unique and adds a bit of spice to an otherwise fairly characteristic romantic story. The thread of superstition that works its way into the scenic backdrop of the beautiful mountains of Arizona is what makes this story so engaging. The protagonist, Faith, grows from a well-defined and naïve young woman to someone who retains her core but grows in her strength and independence; archetypal, but written well.
I really enjoyed the deviation from the typical guy meets girl type of story...it has a smooth mixture of characters to keep the reader turning the pages to see what will happen next...a fun entertaining novel......
I read the negative reviews on this book and it only shows the obvious that we all have different opinions of what makes good or bad reading. I found this story heart warming, original with good chacter development. I felt that part of the story was necessary for good plot development. I read late into the night and picked up again in am. I highly recommend this book to any reader who likes a story with depth of emotion. When you read romance, its a given a happy ending will result. With this story it mattered. My time was not wasted.
I finished this book and still didn't get the point of it. The first 80% was a back-and-forth non-love story, setting up the final "big scene". But the final scene, where everything is revealed was uninteresting and unconvincing.
Setting aside the story line, there was some interesting bits about the individual characters and the concept of family versus loss.
All in all, I don't know why I bought it and once it was on my kindle, felt I needed to read it - but not even a good summer read.
Sorry
